PROBLEM SOLVING
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for December 27.
From the Big Book's perspective, problem solving in recovery begins with a fundamental admission: we cannot solve our own problems through self-will. The book states, 'We had to quit playing God. It didn't work' [Page 62]. Our best efforts only led to worse consequences, proving that our thinking was part of the problem, not the solution. The real solution lies in turning to a Higher Power—as we understand Him—and working the Twelve Steps. When we do, the Promises become real: 'We will know a new freedom and a new happiness' [Page 83]. Problems still come, but we now have a spiritual toolkit: rigorous honesty, prayer, meditation, and service to others [Page 85]. Each problem becomes an opportunity to deepen our reliance on God and practice Step 11, seeking 'through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God' [Page 86]. So, problem solving is not about fixing everything ourselves; it's about letting a Higher Power work through us.
What is one problem you're facing today that you can surrender to your Higher Power, rather than trying to solve it alone?
