COMMITMENT

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for February 16.

Recovery Einstein

Commitment in recovery isn't a dramatic vow — it's the quiet daily choice to keep showing up. The Big Book says, 'Half measures availed us nothing' [Page 60]. We stand at Step Three and make a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understand Him [Page 63]. That's the commitment. But it's not a one-time thing. It's renewed each morning in our eleventh step prayer [Page 86] and lived out by working with others [Page 89]. The Promises are the fruit of that commitment: 'We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves' [Page 84]. Commitment means we stop fighting alone and start trusting the process — one day at a time.
