A TURNING POINT

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for July 11.

Recovery Einstein

A turning point in recovery is that moment when we finally admit defeat and surrender to a Higher Power. The Big Book describes this as hitting bottom—when we realize that our alcoholic thinking is utterly bankrupt. On page 30, it says, "We were in a position where life was becoming very difficult, and we had but one alternative." That alternative is complete surrender. The Third Step Prayer on page 63 marks a profound turning point: we abandon ourselves to God, asking for release from our selfishness. And then, on pages 83-84, the Promises become real—we experience a new freedom, a new happiness, and a sense of serenity. That is the turning point: from captivity to freedom, from despair to hope.
