OUR SURVIVAL

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for October 29.

Recovery Einstein

In AA, our survival as sober alcoholics hinges on a simple but profound truth: we are never cured. On [Page 85], it says, 'We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.' That means survival isn't a one-time event—it's a daily choice to stay connected to the Steps, the Fellowship, and a Higher Power. The Promises on [Pages 83-84] describe a new freedom and happiness, but only if we 'work for them.' Survival flows from action: attending meetings, practicing the principles, and carrying the message. When we forget this, the old obsession can return. But when we remember, we find that 'we have ceased fighting anything or anyone—even alcohol' [Page 84].
