WE JUST TRY

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for August 21.

Recovery Einstein

For many of us, the obsession with perfection kept us drinking. We had to be right, to be in control, to do things flawlessly. But in AA, we learn a different way: we just try. As the Big Book says, 'We are not saints. The point is, that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines' [Page 60]. That willingness—not flawless execution—is the key. Each day, we simply try to do the next right thing, to be honest, to help another alcoholic. The Promises remind us that 'We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves' [Pages 83-84]. Trying without demanding perfection opens the door to that grace.
