THE 100% STEP

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for January 11.

Recovery Einstein

The '100% Step' reminds us that half measures availed us nothing — the Big Book makes this crystal clear on page 60: 'We stood at the turning point. We asked His protection and care with complete abandon.' [Page 60] That's not 99% effort. It's all or nothing. The Promises on pages 83-84 don't come to those who do a halfway job; they come to those who 'have had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps' — and that awakening requires our full, honest participation. [Page 83] So the 100% step is any step we give our whole heart to — but especially Steps 4 through 9, where thoroughness can make or break our recovery. It's the difference between staying sober and relapsing.

— Chapter 5, pages 59-60; Chapter 6, pages 83-84
