HUMILITY IS A GIFT
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for July 13.
Humility as a gift—that's a beautiful way to put it, isn't it? In the Big Book, humility isn't about groveling or thinking less of yourself. It's the honest admission that I am not the center of the universe, and that I need help from a Power greater than myself. On page 76, the Seventh Step Prayer asks God to 'remove my shortcomings'—that's a humble act. The Third Step Prayer on page 63 says, 'God, I offer myself to Thee,' surrendering our will and lives. That's humility in action. And here's the real gift: when we practice humility, we get a daily reprieve from our alcoholism. Page 85 says we are not cured but 'have a daily reprieve from this disease,' contingent on our spiritual condition—including humility. This gift keeps us sober and opens the door to peace.
Where in your life today can you practice the gift of humility by honestly admitting you need help?
