LET GO AND LET GOD
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for November 7.
Letting go and letting God is the essence of Step Three — an active surrender of our will and our lives to God as we understand Him. On page 62, the Big Book says, 'We were now at Step Three,' and describes this as the 'turning point.' The Third Step Prayer on page 63 captures it perfectly: 'Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.' It's not passive resignation; it's a daily decision to stop running the show ourselves and trust a Power greater than ourselves. On page 164, we read, 'We have ceased fighting anything or anyone — even alcohol.' That's letting go. And on page 85, it says, 'We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve dependent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.' That's letting God — one day at a time. So for someone in recovery, 'Let Go and Let God' means taking the action of surrender each morning, then living that day trusting a Higher Power to guide us through.
