PEACE OF MIND

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for September 14.

Recovery Einstein

Peace of mind in recovery is not a fleeting feeling but the solid result of working the Steps. The Big Book promises that 'we will know a new freedom and a new happiness' [Page 84]. This peace comes from surrendering our will and trusting a Higher Power—'we are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it' [Page 83]. It's the byproduct of rigorous honesty, making amends, and maintaining conscious contact with God. Step 11 tells us to pray 'only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out' [Page 86]. That prayer, practiced daily, yields a calm that passes human understanding. Peace of mind grows as we live the program one day at a time.
