THE BONDAGE OF RESENTMENTS

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for April 15.

Recovery Einstein

Resentments are the number one offender. They destroy more alcoholics than anything else. As we read in the Big Book, 'It destroys more alcoholics than anything else' [Page 64]. When we hold onto resentment, we are chaining ourselves to the past — and to the very thing that kept us drinking. The bondage is real: we become obsessed with people and events we can't control. The Promises tell us that we will 'not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it' [Page 83]. That freedom comes only when we let go of resentments through the Steps — especially the Fourth and Fifth. You can't heal what you won't reveal. The bondage of resentment is self-imposed prison. The key is in your hands: forgiveness, inventory, and surrender.

— Chapter 5, pages 64-66; Chapter 6, pages 83-84
