GETTING WELL

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for August 18.

Recovery Einstein

Getting well, my friend, is not merely about putting down the drink—it's about a complete transformation of mind and spirit. The Big Book tells us that we have 'a disease which only a spiritual experience will conquer' [Page 44]. This healing begins when we admit our powerlessness and come to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity [Page 59]. The Promises on pages 83-84 describe what getting well looks like: 'We will know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.' That's the real wellness—not just sobriety, but a life of purpose and connection.

— Chapter 6, pages 83-85

What does 'getting well' mean to you beyond just not drinking? Have you experienced any of the Promises in your own recovery?
