"THE ROOT OF OUR TROUBLES"
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for February 12.
Well, my friend, when we talk about 'the root of our troubles,' the Big Book doesn't mince words. On page 62, it says plainly: 'Selfishness – self-centeredness! That, we think, is the root of our troubles.' It's that relentless focus on ourselves—our resentments, our fears, our demands—that keeps us drinking and miserable. The book goes on to say that 'the alcoholic is an extreme example of self-will run riot' [Page 62], and that's the core we need to face. But here's the good news: the same page offers the solution. We can't fix it by ourselves, so we turn to a Power greater than ourselves. When we stop trying to run the show and start relying on God (as we understand Him), we find the first real relief we've ever known. It's a beautiful paradox—by giving up control, we gain a life worth living.
When you look at your own troubles today, can you see how 'self-will run riot' might be at the bottom of them?
