A THANKFUL HEART

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for February 24.

Recovery Einstein

Gratitude is the heartbeat of recovery. When we awaken to Step Twelve, we find that a thankful heart is not just a feeling—it's a way of living that keeps us sober. The Big Book promises that we will 'not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it' [Page 83], which is possible only when we see every experience—even the painful ones—as part of a journey that led us to grace. In the daily reprieve we receive, we learn to thank God for our sobriety, knowing that 'our thought-life will be placed on a much higher plane' [Page 84]. A thankful heart transforms our perspective, freeing us from resentment and self-pity. It's the natural outcome of working the Steps and staying close to our Higher Power. As we carry this message to others, gratitude becomes our constant companion, reminding us that 'we are not fighting alone' [Page 85].
