LET'S KEEP IT SIMPLE

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for January 22.

Recovery Einstein

The phrase 'Let's keep it simple' is at the heart of the AA way of living. Our program is not complicated—it's a few clear steps that, if practiced daily, keep us sober and sane. The Big Book tells us, 'We have ceased fighting anything or anyone' [Page 84]. That's the essence of simplicity: stop the battle, let go of the need to control, and just do the next right thing. We are promised 'a new freedom and a new happiness' [Page 83] not by figuring everything out, but by trusting the simple process of working the Steps and relying on a Higher Power. The Third Step Prayer asks to be 'relieved of the bondage of self' [Page 63]—that's the ultimate simplification: get out of your own way. Remember, 'What we really have is a daily reprieve' [Page 85]. We don't need to manage a whole lifetime; just today. Keep it simple, and you'll find peace.
