SURRENDERING SELF-WILL

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for March 9.

Recovery Einstein

Oh, my friend, surrendering self-will is the very heart of this program. You see, the Big Book tells us plainly that our whole trouble had been the misuse of willpower — we had tried to run the show, and it led us to a dead end. [Page 62] The Third Step prayer on page 63 gets right to it: 'God, I offer myself to Thee — to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.' That's the surrender we're talking about. Not giving up, but giving over. It's the hardest thing we ever do, and the most freeing. The Promises on pages 83-84 come true when we stop fighting and start trusting.

Something to sit with

Where in your life today are you still trying to play God, and what would it look like to truly let go and let a Higher Power take the lead?
