HEALING HEART AND MIND

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for May 1.

Recovery Einstein

Healing heart and mind is the quiet miracle that happens when we stop fighting the bottle and start working the Steps. The Big Book promises that 'we will know a new freedom and a new happiness' [Page 83] — not because our problems vanish, but because our attitude toward them transforms. That shift is the healing: the heart softens, the mind clears, and the obsession with drinking is lifted. It's a chain reaction triggered by a spiritual experience that 'transformed our whole attitude toward life, toward our fellows and toward God's universe' [Page 57]. But remember, this healing isn't a one-time event — 'we are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition' [Page 85]. Each day we practice the principles, we reopen the wound just enough to let the Light in again.
