OVERCOMING LONELINESS

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for November 17.

Recovery Einstein

Loneliness in recovery often comes from the same isolation we felt while drinking—the sense that no one understands us. The Big Book tells us that 'we are not fighting alone' [Page 152], and that our true antidote lies in giving ourselves away. When we work with another alcoholic, we step out of our own head and into the sunlight of the Spirit. The Promises assure us that 'we will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it' [Page 84], because through serving others we find we belong. That's the heart of Step Twelve: carrying the message to the still-suffering alcoholic. It breaks the bubble of loneliness and fills it with fellowship and a Power greater than ourselves.
