OPENING UP TO CHANGE

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for June 8.

Recovery Einstein

Opening up to change is the very heartbeat of recovery. The Big Book tells us that "we were reborn" [Page 63] when we took the Third Step, turning our will and lives over to a Power greater than ourselves. This is not a one-time event but a daily practice of letting go. On page 85, we read that we are given a "daily reprieve" contingent on our spiritual condition — meaning we must remain open to new ways of thinking and acting. As the Promises on pages 83-84 declare, "We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it." That door opens only when we embrace change, letting go of old resentments, fears, and self-will. It's like the airplane that must lift off from the runway — staying stuck on the ground is safe but gets us nowhere. So, opening up to change means trusting the process, one day at a time.
