LIVING IN THE NOW
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for June 9.
Living in the now is really at the heart of our daily reprieve. On page 85, we read that 'We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.' That means our sobriety isn't a permanent achievement—it's renewed each day by how we live this very moment. The past is gone, the future hasn't arrived, and our only power lies in the present.[Page 85]
This is why Step 11 asks us to pray only for knowledge of God's will and the power to carry it out—right now, not for a lifetime. On page 87, it says we 'relax and take it easy,' trusting that if we focus on today's spiritual condition, tomorrow will take care of itself. Living in the now means letting go of regrets about yesterday and fears about tomorrow, and instead asking, 'What can I do today to stay connected to my Higher Power?'[Pages 86-87]
What one thing can you do today to strengthen your spiritual condition, so you can receive the daily reprieve?
