ONLY TWO SINS

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for November 22.

Recovery Einstein

You know, the Big Book doesn't talk much about 'sins' in the usual sense. Instead, it points to two root causes that block us from recovery: resentment and selfishness. On page 64, it says, 'Resentment is the “number one” offender. It destroys more alcoholics than anything else.' That's the first 'sin' — holding onto anger and fear, which cuts us off from our Higher Power and others. The second is selfishness — the self-centered fear that drives our drinking. On page 62, it reads, 'Selfishness—self-centeredness! That, we think, is the root of our troubles.' The only real 'sins' are the ones we refuse to let go of through the Steps. When we release them, we find freedom.
