"HOLD YOUR FACE TO THE LIGHT"

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for November 23.

Recovery Einstein

Holding your face to the light means turning away from the darkness of self-will and toward the sunlight of the Spirit. The Big Book promises that we will 'know a new freedom and a new happiness' when we stop fighting anything or anyone—even alcohol [Page 83]. This is not about simply not drinking; it's about actively seeking the light of God's will in our daily lives. The Third Step Prayer asks God to 'relieve me of the bondage of self,' so that we can 'better do Thy will' [Page 63]. By holding your face to the light, you let go of resentment, fear, and selfishness, and you begin to experience the peace and clarity that come from living in the solution. The Promises say we will 'intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us' [Page 84]. That's the light—God's guidance shining through a clear mind and a willing heart.
